Mondsee & Surroundings

A place in the Salzkammergut where historic ambiance meets modern comfort — and how to get there most comfortably.

The Place

Salzkammergut, Upper Austria

Mondsee sits on one of the most beautiful lakes in the Salzkammergut, about 4 hours from major German cities — close enough for an extended weekend, far enough from everyday life. Schloss Hotel Mondsee itself is a 4★S hotel in a historic building, right in the middle of the illuminated old town.

Getting There

How to reach Mondsee

Two routes are open to you — by car or by train & bus. Both are very doable; if driving, we recommend checking the route with your GPS beforehand.

🚗 By car

From Nuremberg or the southern German area, there are several routes to Mondsee. The route via Munich is usually the fastest, but also the most congested — worth checking your GPS beforehand.

You'll need a vignette for Austrian highways. You can get one at practically any gas station along the highway in Bavaria, or buy a digital version in advance.

🚊 By train & bus

The Bayern-Ticket gets you to Salzburg main train station. From there, bus 140 takes you to Mondsee in about 50 minutes (bus fare not included in the Bayern-Ticket).

🅿️ Parking on site

You can park right in front of the hotel for check-in and check-out. For the duration of the retreat, we recommend the free open-air parking lot right next to the hotel (about a 2-minute walk).

🏰 Check-in & check-out

Official check-in is from 15:00 (sometimes possible from 14:00, depending on room occupancy). Check-out is until 11:00.

We'll add specific sightseeing and restaurant recommendations for the area here soon.
